Case Study : Weight management
It’s not simply about willpower and calories. There’s a lot of personal stuff to unpack when it comes to weight gain and loss. Deeply held beliefs, social pressure, work pressures, family pressures all eat up your finite willpower. If diets have failed you in the past they certainly will again unless you address your drivers, your real reasons you want to keep your weight balanced.
I worked with a local GP and some volunteers from her surgery to create a prototype weight loss app which as well as clearly helping with what to eat, what exercise suits you best and how to keep socially motivated, it head-on addressed why you haven’t been able to lose weight in the past and what values/reasons do you have to overcome that.
The volunteers replaced willpower with a belief system., “I will walk daily and avoid my nemesis milk chocolate because I’m the sort of person who plays games with my lovely grandchildren...and I need to be physically up to that task!”
